Amputation of the entire lower jaw, with disarticulation of both condyles

Carnochan is know for his ligation of the carotid on both sides for elephantiasis (1867) and he was the first to excise the superior maxillary nerve, including Meekel's ganglion, for facial neuralgia (1858).
